HOW MANY METERS OF FABRIC DO I NEED?
DETAILS
The Omega Black faux leather for upholstery is a high-strength synthetic leather, specially designed for projects requiring exceptional wear resistance and high tear resistance. Its elegant and timeless black finish makes it an excellent choice for upholstering frequently used furniture, both in the home and in professional settings.
One of the most notable features of the OMEGA PU collection is its high tear-resistance, with values of 63.8 N in the warp and 61.9 N in the weft, according to the EN ISO 4674-1 test specified by the manufacturer. This property is particularly valuable in upholstery applications subject to stress, strain and continuous use, where the material’s strength is essential for achieving durable finishes.
Furthermore, it is abrasion-resistant and offers a resistance of 500,000 cycles or more, according to the EN ISO 5470-2 test, making it a particularly suitable choice for sofas, armchairs, chairs, benches, hospitality seating and heavy-duty furniture. Its high-strength flexural properties and good durability in the face of hydrolysis reinforce its profile as a high-performance upholstery material.
Its surface is made from 100 per cent polyurethane (PU), with a backing of 100% polyester. It has a width of 140 cm (±3%), a weight of 770 g per linear metre (±5%) and a thickness of 1.3 mm (±5%). According to the manufacturer’s information, it is manufactured using a process free from chemical solvents.

Additional flame-retardant treatments are also available on request, subject to specific validation for each production run. Fire performance depends, amongst other factors, on the foam used and the final configuration of the furniture.
Suggested uses: particularly suitable for upholstering sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, stools, benches, headboards and seats subject to heavy use. Its performance characteristics make it an attractive option for hospitality, catering, commercial spaces and professional furniture projects, provided the technical requirements for each application are verified. Its black colour blends easily with wood, metal and contemporary finishes, providing an elegant and versatile look.
Sewing and upholstery tip: use a needle suitable for faux leather or synthetic materials (90/14 or 100/16) and durable polyester thread, checking beforehand which combination is most appropriate depending on the number of layers. It is recommended to carry out a sewing test and to use a Teflon or dual-feed presser foot to help the fabric glide smoothly. Avoid unpicking repeatedly, as the needle holes may remain visible. Although it is tear-resistant, it is advisable to distribute the tension correctly and to reinforce areas subject to stress where the design requires it.
Cleaning and maintenance: remove stains, spills or dirt as soon as possible using a mild soap solution and a soft woollen cloth, using gentle circular movements. Avoid rubbing too hard and test any cleaning product on an inconspicuous area first. When using disinfectants, check the compatibility of the specific product and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The Omega Black faux leather is an excellent choice for those seeking a polyurethane upholstery that is particularly tear-resistant, with over 500,000 abrasion cycles and easy maintenance, ideal for furniture that needs to combine durability, functionality and a timeless aesthetic.
